Hi, as regards shielded wiring/cavity ideas, long ago, when I was doing lots of guitar & etc wiring, I was told to only ground one end of the shield to avoid a ground loop. Naturally you want the circuit wires to form a complete circuit.
Others may have better suggestions. Does this make sense?
Getting old is a weird experience when you start to lose the data banks.
Good luck with the build. More young people should step into creating their instruments. Whoo knows where that will lead. I built a successful business that led to better things.
Best regards. R

Re: Hollow body lap steel tone? Slightly off topic
Like all Gibsons they used shielded wire... at least all the one's I've owned and worked on have had it.Dave Hodges wrote: 7 Nov 2025 2:37 pm I'm a complete newbie when it comes to lap steel guitars. I am endeavoring to build a replica Gibson EH-150. My question is how to shield the cavities. If it is multi chambered do I just shield the cavities in which there is wiring? Or if it is one big open cavity do I shield the entire area? With other builds I have not had much luck using shielded wire - IDKW.
Thanks for any feedback - pun intended!
