New Video @@ Love is Blue - A6 tuning

Post by Doug Beaumier »

Just uploaded to YouTube. This tune was a big instrumental hit in 1968. I always thought it would make a good steel guitar instrumental.

I'm playing a 1960s Supro Jet Airliner console steel, 8 strings, A6 tuning

One of the songs I remember hearing as a child that really stuck with me. Great to hear this one , Doug. Nice job as usual!

I remember that song from my childhood too. Well-played as always, Doug.

Indeed it did make a romantic steel guitar instrumental and you played it masterfully Doug.
I recorded it in EMI Abbey Road studios in 1967 BEFORE it was entered into the Eurovision song contest, EMI Music publishing recieved the rights and a demo of it from EMI France who were André Popp's publisher . After recording it EMI decided to hold it back from my first album and include on a future release AFTER the Eurovision contest. (Hawaiian Nights TWO-218)
That's why there are only 13 tracks on my 1967 Album "Shades of Hawaii" TWO-177. In 1968 EMI released Hawaiian Nights TWO-218 that included the 1967 recording of "L'amour est bleu".. I recorded more albums for EMI , Studio Two and other labels until, In 1999 EMI Combined the two albums into a double CD and released it worldwide and also leased it to streaming providors.

It's karma isnt it, It MAY have been a minor(Ha ha) Hit in the UK if EMI had decided to release the cover version that I did.
I was particularly drawn to its use of the 'Tierce de Picardie' between the verse and chorus.

Thanks Basil and others. And thank you Basil for sending me your 1967 recording of "Love is Blue". I really like your playing on the melody. The entire production evokes images of mystery and exotica... in my mind, anyway. It's cool that you were there at the beginning. What great memories you must have of Abbey Road studios in the '60s.
