EB lap steel?

Post by Adam Laye »

Hello community,

First time poster here.

I recently acquired two vintage lap steels - one is a 57 Supro (!) and one is unfamiliar to me. The only distinguishing characteristic of the guitar is an EB inscribed on the headstock. Does anyone have any information about this?

The guitars were part of a large estate collection and the collector had some REALLY nice instruments. Considering that they owned a 57 Supro I figure there is an equal chance that this EB guitar could be a known brand or it could just be from a buddy playing with some leftover birdseye maple in a garage. The guitar features a Seymour Duncan single coil and a telecaster bridge pickup. Any information about this is greatly appreciated!

Ernie Ball, no doubt. Very much looks like his headstock design. That is an interesting acquisition.

Is it a hollow body since it looks like it has sound holes? I made one with a head like that. I have limited space to play and that 4+2 configuration shortened it up!
Currently own, 6 Groner-tone lap steels, one 1953 Alamo Lap steel, Roland Cube, Fender Champion 40

I was thinking that, but it looks too new, wasn't EB a pedals player in the '60s, and a Fender endorsee. Still, it would be worth reaching out to them.

For anyone in the future who stumbles upon one of these EB instruments, here is the response I got from the maker:

“My name is Eric Brown and have been building electric guitars here in Farmingdale, Maine. 1,300 guitar and 30 years later. I mainly build custom teles and other Fender style guitars. Built under NewEnglandCustomGuitars from 2002 to 2016”
