Some live-in-studio vids (Clair de Lune, The Swan)
Just let the camera roll while I was relearning/rehearsing these pieces. Putting the band back together, to quote the Blues Brothers. Playing through a Roland JC-40 mic’d and mixed into the tracks in Reaper.

Great job Mike! That would be a treat to hear live. The Swan sounds like pedal steel, your slants are spot on!

Sounds great as usual Mike!
I loved your transcription of Gabby’s version of Chloe on Ry Cooder’s chicken skin album.

Re: Some live-in-studio vids (Clair de Lune, The Swan)
Thanks, gents. I have to pinch myself now and then for having the chance to play this magical steel guitar of Sol’s. When I took possession of it in 2018, it was tuned to C#m7, which was the tuning Sol used in the latter part of his career (I also still have his original strings!) and the tuning Ian Ufton played on it. It was’n’t until 2020 that I started playing it and finally changed the strings to play C6 on it. I haven’t changed the strings since.

Have you ever done a version of "Gymnopedie No. 1" by Erik Satie? If not, you should. I think you'd do it justice.
Enjoy!

Re: Some live-in-studio vids (Clair de Lune, The Swan)
As a matter of fact, I have had this one in the pipeline since before we left for Italy back in June, but in order to properly demo it the way I heard it, I needed to learn how to play the groove I wanted using my fingers drumming on my keyboard's pads. I finally got around to it this week. I am going to start a new thread on it, but unfortunately not many folks are really interested in these recordings.Michael Kiese wrote: 13 Jul 2025 3:04 pm Have you ever done a version of "Gymnopedie No. 1" by Erik Satie? I'm very interested, Mike. Your recordings are very well done and unique. The tone of Sol's Ric is wonderful and your touch is amazing! Please don't stop posting your work. You're an inspiration to us all!
