I have found great pleasure in my work with my ‘61 Supro. Various tunings have had me seeking a tone I admire from so many of you.
I had a persistent “tubby” sound from my E-6 that was driving me ‘round the bend. Eventually, after restringing didn’t help, I popped the string out of the bridge groove and lightly dressed the slot with a jewelers round file. That resolved the issue, it seems.
E-6 is a .058. I was thinking of going up to a .060 for the added tension but at least for now I am happy. Still not quite as growly as I had hope for, but . . .
Thanks to all for your insights, I may get a basic repertoire put together one day. Your info is a big help.
Dead sounding E-6, open E tuning.
