Polytone Taurus Elite - anybody know this amp?

Hello Friends,

I just got it - my first steel guitar. ok, the first time i played it over my guitar amp, a Laney, but i'd like to use an extra amp for the steel.

My guitar dealer recommended a Polytone Taurus Elite. It has a 15" speaker and sounded great - with a guitar.

Does anybody of you guys and gals have any experience with that amp?

So, what kind of guitar did you buy? Make, model; any pics??

Unfortunately I never heard the Polytone. Since it has a 15" speaker and Polytone amps are held in high esteem by jazz guitarists for their clean tone it might work with the PSG. Anyway, your dealer should lend it to you for a weekend, I'd personally would never buy an amp for a steel that I've only heard with a guitar.

You might consider a Nashville 400. Sometimes you can find one in Germany. Call Wolfgang Bednarz in Lohr am Main (09352-7825), if there is one on sale in Germany, he should know it. Sometimes he has one to sell on consignment.

I have a Polytone "Mini Brute", with a 15 inch speaker and reverb. Winnie Winston used to use one (maybe still does?). They're small and fairly portable. Some days I get a pretty good sound from it and I'm happy. Other days I can't seem to get a decent tone I like from it. I still haven't figured out why the difference. So I don't take it to gigs much (unless there are many stairs to climb to the gig!) Your mileage may vary.

I use a Mini Brute too and it is great with my National Console, though I have to admit that I bought it because it means I can carry all my gear into a gig in one trip, since the amp fits into a sort of shoulder bag. With my bits bag on the other shoulder, guitar case in one hand and cab in the other, it's the life of a wandering minstrel!
It does have a great clean tone which is great for jazz etc. The distortion is gentle- ok for blues, but you need something a bit more radical in the way of pedals for going over a rock outfit.
Oh and it has got noisier over the last five years!

Martin - i already called Wolfgang - he has sold his Nashville 400 already.

I think I do what You said - I will try the amp for the weekend.

By the way - I bought a used Jagiella SE-10, and I love it.
